Archeologist

This Park unit has several special projects which require the services of an archeologist in order to meet all statutory (Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act) and compliance (Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act) requirements. This position will:
Serve as an advisor on cultural resources. Identify, evaluate, and monitor cultural resources, identify potential threats, and make recommendations regarding status and mitigation of impacts. Assemble bibliographies and acquaint park staff with recent archeological scholarship pertinent to the park's resources and themes. Responsible for the preparation of historic preservation documentation, compliance, and background materials for clearances, permits, licenses, etc. as required. Develop and maintain liaisons and effective working relations with related groups and individuals, agencies, and the public. Plan and conduct archeological research. Serve as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on assigned projects and be responsible for coordination of projects conducted through contracts, interagency agreements, and cooperative agreements. Special Consideration:
The island of Hawaii is subject to high concentrations of volcanic fumes, especially sulfur dioxide gasses. The fumes are known to be hazardous to an unborn fetus, and persons with heart and respiratory problems. The Kona coast primarily experiences fog conditions throughout the year, and occasionally eastern Hawaii Island and other Hawaiian islands. Long-term effects on normal healthy persons are unknown. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/11/2019-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect either full-time or 40 hours per week. If a part-time work schedule is reflected, the hours must be annotated to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTTo qualify for this position, you must meet at least one of the following basic education requirements:
Education:
Degree that included 3 hours each in the following course areas:
History of archeology; archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating and analytical techniques; archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work; AND 6 semester hours of related course work in:
geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, of historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying; AND Archeological field school. -OR- Related Curriculum:
Degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in the education option listed above (including archeological field school). -OR- Combination of Education &
Experience:
College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. -OR-
Experience:
Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project. In addition to the basic education requirements listed above, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement to qualify for the GS-11 level:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
preparing and completing documents for compliance with the National Historic Preservation ACT; applying criteria of the National Register of Historic Places to evaluate the eligibility of historic properties to be listed in the National Register; evaluating cultural resources data using geographic information system (GIS) based data systems; performing cultural resource inventories and surveys in the field and documenting the results in written reports; evaluating, assessing, and mapping conditions of archeological sites using Global Position System units or other high accuracy device. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least 3 years (54 semester hours/81 quarter hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree To be qualifying, graduate study must have been in archeology, anthropology, or other closely related field. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours or equivalent earned towards a graduate degree, in excess of 36 semester hours, and divide by 18 semester hours or equivalent. Then, take the number of months of experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
